Umoja=Unity

Umoja Debate League is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses debate as our vehicle to teach Detroit youth ages 11-18 transferable life skills, such as critical thinking, confidence, conflict resolution, increased literacy, and self-expression.

Vision

Umoja Debate League's vision is to create a pipeline of lawyers, community changemakers, and leaders. Our students will use their sharpened critical thinking, articulation, and conflict resolution skills to ignite total community transformation.

Mission

Our mission is to equip Detroit youth ages 11-18 with transferable life skills such as critical thinking, self expression, confidence, and conflict resolution. Competitive debate is our vehicle to instill these skills while elevating their voices.
